New York Yankees relief pitcher Anthony Miejewicz was carted off the field after a 100 mph comebacker hit him in the head Friday night.
The line drive came off the bat of Pittsburgh Pirates second baseman Bae Ji-Hwan, who hit a 1-2 curve straight back to the pitching mound. The ball struck Misiewicz in the left side of the face and he fell to the ground in pain. He remained conscious and rolled on the ground, holding his head.

The ball bounced off Misiewicz bounces off the head of the Yankees and into right field. As Yankees teammates gathered near the mound, trainers immediately ran to patch up Misiewicz. He was helped to his feet and placed on a cart.
The Yankees later announced that Misiewicz was "alert and oriented" and was taken to a local hospital for further examination.

The incident occurred in the 6th inning with the Pirates tied 3-3 on a Joshua Palacios line drive from third base. Zach McAllister replaced Misiewicz on the mound and the Pirates led 5-3 at the end of the inning. New York won the game 7-5.
Misiewicz, 28, was in his fourth MLB season. He joined the Yankees midseason off waivers after stints with the Detroit Tigers, Arizona Diamondbacks, Kansas City Royals and Seattle Mariners.
